Origin Story

Welcome to my art journey.  It took me a while to embrace believing in myself as an artist and that may be the first step.  To admit that I have an art problem. No, just kidding... To allow yourself the freedom to dream and create.

A little about me, I am a licensed acupuncturist that recently had to close the doors to my office.  It is tough having your own business and there were a lot of variables attached that had me throw in the towel.  I love natural medicine and hope to continue, even if through volunteering and community service, such as through a wonderful non-profit organization that services veterans with alternative medicine services for free, Vet TRIIP.  Before I got my masters in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, I obtained a Nutritional Science degree at Texas A&M.  I also worked over five years in an oil and gas lab to save up the capital to have my own office.  Thought it was the dream job, but it amazingly ended up lacking.

My initial goals of helping others prevent illness and provide healing didn't leave me a lot of room to be creative.  However my desires to do so were always simmering beneath the surface.  My philosophy has shifted towards accepting that free will and personal responsibility are key to health and wellness.  As a healer, I am only a catalyst in the healing journey. The true healing is done by the person looking to be healed.  I have met many who are not ready to accept that; they place health and healing outside themselves.  I've done it myself.  And worse, while I enjoyed helping people, running my own business wasn't really fulfilling. It was stressful. I thought pursuing an honorable purpose, being service to others, abundance and happiness would abound.  So it was shocking that I wasn't enjoying myself or seeing a positive return in this venture.  Maybe those go hand in hand.  Had to start thinking of something different.

I'm currently studying to be an elementary school teacher, which sounds like a 180 turn, but I truly enjoy working with kids.  I have always felt teaching is a great calling.  The best thing I hope to learn how to be the best teacher possible, so I can possibly continue to teach nutrition, natural medicine, and art.  And share my love of reading and writing!  Sometimes when you have so many varied interests, it really takes awhile to organize and get there.  It really doesn't matter how old you are when you start going after your passions.  The important thing is allowing yourself to start and enjoying the journey.  Peace and Aloha.
